Conversely, a person who has too many prematurely self-destructing cells may develop degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. Researchers led by Ruth Kluck at Melbourne’s Walter and Eliza Hall Institute have identified a key step in the mechanism by which cells self destruct, one that could have far reaching implications for medicine. But the presser produced bit of breaking news, too. Gillispie said that Derrick Jasper "will most likely" transfer, but said he would not comment further until the issue had been resolved. Gillispie said he thought that would happen in the next week. Gil

Now a gym to tend to cramped muscles in space
Sat, 10 May 2008 09:48:17 PDT
London, May 10 (IANS) Astronauts often complain of cramped muscles and pain in the bones after spending a long time in space. But a gym developed by a Swedish university could take care of their problems in flight. Weightlessness atrophies the muscles and decalcifies the skeleton. It doesn’t help to “pump iron” as barbells and dumb bells are also weightless on a space voyage. However, Per Tesch and colleagues at Mid Sweden University have found a solution that functions like a reverse yo-yo.
